When Mia and her baby got their first pair of shoes
Mia and Emma have just had their first pairs of shoes.
The couple was born in a Brisbane hospital with a condition called congenital hypopigmentation, where a baby’s skin and bones are too small for their bodies.
But while it may not be life-threatening, the condition can cause a range of problems including blindness, deafness, loss of vision, hearing loss, bone deformities and even brain damage.
“Mia has been a little bit of a pain in the ass,” Emma said.
“She’s been around so long she just gets used to it.
She’s always been there when we need her.”
It’s a really, really big challenge for Mia and the family, but she’s definitely been able to push through it.
“The couple, who live in Brisbane’s inner-west, say they have made the best of their predicament.
Mia’s mum, Amanda, has been working with the hospital’s paediatric emergency department to give Mia and baby Emma’s first pair.”
They have been so loving, loving and protective of Mia, and the whole family,” Amanda said.”
There’s been some issues, but Mia’s a little more accepting of the challenges.
“She knows she needs her mother’s shoes, and she’s really grateful to be able to be with her, and be able wear them.”
Mia and Emma say their first couple of pairs have been a life-changer Miamas mum, Amelia, has worked with the paediatric emergencies department at Brisbane’s Alfred Hospital to give baby Mia and Emmies first pair, as well as to provide Mia and mother Emma with extra support.
“I’ve been very supportive of Mia and I’ve helped her with the fitting and I’m very excited to have her in her first pair,” Amelia said.
“I know she will enjoy wearing her shoes, I can tell by the way she looks at her shoes.”
We’ve made the right choices for Mia, she’s not going to need her first pairs for very long, and hopefully she’ll be able get them back soon.
“While it may be a difficult time for Mia for a while, Amelia and Emma are looking forward to the days when Mia can have her first boots.”
My daughter is just a little girl, she can’t do this,” Amelia added.
